Jaamir Bumbrey: The Perfectionist

No one can deny Jaamir Bumbrey’s athleticism. After helping the James Monroe High School football team advance to the state championship, he is then going straight to help put his basketball team in the same position. Even though he does not plan on taking his skills to college, he does plan to make the best out of this year.
Offthemag: Were you introduced to basketball or football first?
Jaamir B.: Basketball, but it was actually soccer then basketball.
Offthemag: Being a point guard, what is your definition of a leader?
Jaamir B.: Leading your team positively on and off the court.
Offthemag: What is the difference between a good player and a great player?
Jaamir B.: A good player takes care of himself, but a great player not only does his job but assists his teammates in theirs.
Offthemag: What did you learn most from your playoff defeat to Brunswick last year?
Jaamir B.: That even though we thought we were a good team, there is always someone out there who can be better.
Offthemag: What can you take, being so close to winning States, to the court?
Jaamir B.: You have to stay focus on your goal, which is to win it all. You don’t want to go far and slip up.
Offthemag: If you could only play one sport which would it be?
JaamirB.: Basketball!
Offthemag: What are your biggest strengths on the court?
Jaamir B.: My biggest strenght is my intelligence. It helps me make the right choices on the court.
Offthemag: Would you say you are more of an aggressive player or laid back on the court?
Jaamir B.: I am more laid back than aggressive.
Offthemag: What are your predictions for this upcoming season?
Jaamir B.: I’m hoping we can win the battlefield district and take JM to the state tournament.
Offthemag: Whats one word to describe you?
Jaamir B.: Perfectionist, I try to make everything perfect.
