Tre Jones: “More than Stats”

One of Massaponax High School’s most prolific scorers Tre Jones averaged 20 points a game this year. This senior guard also managed to capture First Team All Commonwealth Honors. Offthemag: Well Tre welcome to OFFiCiAL the Magazine tell us a little about yourself?
I’m 17, I’m from Charlottesville, Virginia . I have 2 brothers and 1 sister. I love my family and friends. I’m a senior at Massaponax High School. I was brought up in church and I’m a very humble young man. I play AAU for the VA Assualt. And I’m just thanking GOD for where I am today.
Offthemag: How and when did you develop your love for the game?
When I was about 6 years old I first picked up a basketball.
Offthemag: Who do you look up to as a role model in your everyday life? and why?
My mother because without her I wouldn’t be who I am today. She never played a sport but she always told me to work hard at whatever you do. She was always hard on me and always wanted me to succeed and I just take those things and transfer them to the basketball court.
Offthemag: What is your biggest strength on the court?
I can do various things on the court but my best strength is scoring and passing.
Offthemag: What separates your game from others?
I am very versatile. I can score in many different ways as well as pass. I also grab rebounds and play well on defense.
Offthemag: What separates a good player from a great player?
A great player is not just recognized for his stats alone but for his team and how he can help them while still doing his job.
Offthemag: When did you start to dunk?
I started dunking as a sophomore in high school, and at 5’11 some people find that hard to believe.
Offthemag: We heard your really close to your little brother,do you teach him some of your skills?
Yes, I do. I try to teach him that all the fundamental things on the court that means the most. I also try to instill in him that attitude is everything.
Offthemag: Are you planning on playing college basketball?
Yes, I plan on playing at a four year university.
Offthemag: What schools been showing the most interest?
Virginia Wesleyan University, George Mason University and James Madison University.
