Nicolette Ellis gives us some insight on her first self-written film Stiletto Dreams that premieres this Saturday in New York City!
Offthemag: What inspired you to write Stiletto Dreams?
Nicolette: What inspired me to write Stiletto Dreams were my own dreams. I wanted to find a way to actually make being an actress, reality. So 3 years ago, Atika Greene (Samantha of Stiletto Dreams) and I were in my dorm room of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy throwing ideas around for Stiletto Dreams. Next thing you know, I was staying with my boyfriend’s sister while I was in New York for a show in the summer of 2013, and always had free time when I wasn’t in rehearsals, and I would just write. Then a year later, I met Imana Breaux (Kelly of Stiletto Dreams) and she read the script and said “Do it! This story needs to be told” So I took it seriously and created a story based on people I’ve met in my life from family, friends to enemies.
OTM: Give us a synopsis of the film?
Nicolette: Synopsis of Stiletto Dreams: Brooke is forced into adulthood after no luck with finding a job. Her father, Alvin, has had enough and believes that her moving to NYC with her childhood friend, Samantha, would be the best choice. After reuniting, Brooke adjusts to change in her new home and embarks life’s journey with Samantha. Following the friendship of Mike and Kelly. Brooke and Samantha’s friendship is challenged with unsuspected changes.
OTM: Do you see yourself in more self written films in the future?
Nicolette: Yes absolutely I see myself in more self-written films! I’m actually writing one right now, I don’t know where this journey with being an actress/writer is going to go, but I really have a strong like for creating my own work now.
OTM: How was the writing process and acting for this film?
Nicolette: Yes, absolutely. I see myself in more self-written films! I’m actually writing one right now, I don’t know where this journey with being an actress/writer is going to go, but I really have a strong like for creating my own work now.
OTM: Are there any other projects you are working on?
Nicolette: Right now, I just finished working on a web series Situationships, which is set to premiere this fall! Also, I’m in a play called The Wanderers Game coming on October 17th in NYC.
OTM: Give us one word that describes Stiletto Dreams?
Nicolette: One word to describe Stiletto Dreams would be: “determination”. Reasoning being the word “determination” can have a good or bad connotation. Every character I’ve written has a goal and is determined to reach it.
OTM: Are there any more tickets left for the screening this Saturday? If so where could the viewers get the tickets from?
Nicolette: No more tickets for now! We became sold out on 10/6! But we do plan on taking this film very far, so you won’t hear the last of Stiletto Dreams. (smiles) Keep up with us on StilettoDreamsFilm.com.
