“As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know — there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity. I look forward to this matter concluding quickly.  In the meantime, I will never stop fighting for the people and the issues that matter most to the future of our country.” – President Donald Trump

A few days ago, the Justice Department appointed former FBI director Robert Mueller as the special counsel to head the federal investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. The investigation will look into a possible connection between President Trump’s campaign and Russia official’s. The appointment comes a week after President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey and a day after the New York Times sent out reports saying that Trump asked Comey to drop an investigation of former National Security Advisor Micheal Flynn, who resigned after lying about his connection and communication with the Russian ambassador.

An investigation headed by a special counsel can result in criminal charges. Previously, the last time special counsel investigated a president was against President Nixon and the Watergate Scandal.
